Velvet
Goldmine
Eddie appears as the
band's manager. His character is called Jerry Devine.
In early-'70s London, there was one
brief, shining moment that was definitely not known as Camelot:
the era of glittering androgyny called glam rock. Todd Haynes's "Velvet
Goldmine" (Miramax, available now) takes a "Citizen
Kane" approach to the subject, sending a young journalist
(Christian Bale) in 1984 to report a "whatever-happened-to"
story about a glitter star (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) who mysteriously
disappeared after faking his own onstage assassination attempt. The
film's style is dazzling; its content is somewhat less so. But Ewan
McGregor is sensational as a Dionysian American rocker. If you're
looking for a hefty slice of decadence, here it is.
